Winter 2014

A happy and healthy new year to everyone.

This past fall we at Racing Hearts were busy pursing heart health on many fronts.  We participated in the Stanford Heart Conference and I had the fantastic opportunity to speak at the University Palo Alto Rotary Club.  With our AED lending program we raised awareness for Racing Hearts and the need for life saving heart defibrillators at local running events like the Mermaid Series, Miles for Migraine, and the San Jose Turkey Trot.  And last but not least, we added 6 new AEDs to the community - bringing the total to 98 in 2013.

So what's next?  Mark your calendars....

Our 'Spot The Box' campaign

January 20, 2014 - February 20, 20

The goal of out 'Spot The Box' campaign is to enlist community participation to make the network of existing AEDs more effective by creating a public map of these life-saving devices.  Mid - January we are launching our free AEDSpotter App that makes it easy for anyone to snap a photo of a located AED, add some description text - and that information gets uploaded to a Google community map.

In partnership with the Palo Alto Fire Department and in sponsorship from Palo Alto Medical Foundation - our 'Spot The Box' campaign kicks off Jan 20th and concludes on February 20th with prizes from Patagonia, Starbucks, Jamba Juice - including our grand prize of a $500 VISA gift card for the top AED spotters.  To date we have over $3,000 in prizes to be awarded!!

We'd love to enlist your help in finding AEDs - so visit www.racinghearts.org/aedspotter-app

Racing Hearts 5K/10K Race

March 23rd, 2014 (Sunday)

Racing Hearts is working with Stanford Heart Research (SHR) to host a fun 5K/10K run/walk.  This 'boutique' race will be limited to the first 300 participants who sign up.  The event will be hosted on the beautiful Stanford campus and is being sponsored by Stanford Hospital and Clinics.  We have great surprises for those who join us.  And rest assured, we're arranging for glorious weather that morning:)  For more information visit www.racinghearts.org/heartrun

As always, we appreciate your time and support with everything from making donations and connections that further our mission to spreading the word about Racing Hearts and what we're doing.

Thank you,

Stephanie Martinson

A quick shoutout and BIG 'thank you' to all of our awesome sponsors.  We couldn't do this important work without each and every one of you.
